At first it seemed as if it were yet another noncompetitive showcase on ShoBox for fighters of Mayweather Promotions.

That was until Rogelio Medina (33-6, 27 KOs) knocked out J’Leon Love (18-1, 10 KOs) with a powerful left hook in the second round of a scheduled ten-round fight at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Love was just one fight away from a title fight, taking a “tune-up” fight to stay busy in the process.

Now it seems to be the biggest mistake of his career as he was caught recklessly trading hooks with Medina on the ropes.

Love launched himself off of the ropes to throw a left hook but was caught in the process.

The punch spun his head nearly 180 degrees and dropped him face-first onto the canvas, where his trembling legs signaled how severe the knockdown had been.

Love, a 26-year-old native of Dearborn Heights, Michigan faces a devastating loss in his career, while Medina, a 25-year-old of Sonora, Mexico, has his career resuscitated by a stunning knockout win.

Badou Jack (17-1-1, 11 KOs) vs. Jason Escalera (15-1-1, 12 KOs)

Badou Jack scored a unanimous decision victory over Jason Escalera in a ten-round Super Middleweight fight.

Jack, who had just recently lost a surprise first-round upset against Derek Edwards, boxed carefully for all ten rounds.

It seems that losing to Edwards in the very first round via knockout taught Jack to keep his hands up, as he used high guard to jab and counter Escalera for the entire fight.

Jack, a 30-year-old native of Stockholm, Sweden, won with scores of 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91

Ronald Gavril (10-0, 8 KOs) vs. Thomas Falowo (12-2, 8 KOs) Ronlad Gavril ShoBox - Stephanie Trapp Photo by Stephanie Trapp

Ronald Gavril knocked out Thomas Falowo in the seventh round of a scheduled ten-round Super Middleweight fight.

Gavril was calm and relaxed as he waited for opportunities to hurt Falowo. Gavril pressed the action during entire fight at a calm pace and landed counter rights as they became available.

Indeed, in the second round, Gavril knocked down Falowo with a counter right hand after Falowo threw a very lazy jab.

Falowo tried to come back in round four, almost seeming to hurt Gavril before the rounds’ end.

Despite Falowo’s efforts, however, Gavril’s fifth-round assault to the body softened Falowo up en route to a seventh-round flurry that eventually ended the fight.
