WBO Middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2-1, 24 KOs) has confirmed via Twitter that his next opponent will be Billy Joe Saunders (21-0, 11 KOs).

The clash of southpaws will take place on September 19 and will be held at the Thomond Park Stadium in Limerick, Ireland.

Saunders is coming off of a big grudge-match victory over nemesis and formerly undefeated Chris Eubank Jr. and now has his eyes set of on a world title.

Lee last appeared in the ring on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC, battling to a draw against former WBO champion Peter Quillin.

In speaking with Sky Sports, Saunders vocalized his confidence entering the bout with Lee. “Andy Lee is strong and game, but he’s been on the floor in the last three and is coming to the end. He’s at a point where he’s cashing in and I don’t blame him for that, but I’m too fresh for him,” said Saunders.

Saunders added that while Lee has been able to come from behind in his last few fights, that won’t be the case this time.

“His luck has got to run out some time and I’m the man to take his title. He’s got a lot of miles on the clock, unlike, say, [Gennady] Golovkin, who is still young and fresh as a champion.”
