Brawl Ensues after Boxing Cornerman Punches Opponent

A brawl ensued at the MGM National Harbor after Andre Dirrell (35-3, 26 KOs) was awarded an eight-round disqualification victory against Jose Uzcátegui (26-1, 22 KOs) in their scheduled 12-round Super Middleweight battle in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Mayhem ensued at the MGM National Harbor after Andre Dirrell (35-3, 26 KOs) was awarded an eight-round disqualification victory against Jose Uzcátegui (26-1, 22 KOs) in their scheduled 12-round Super Middleweight battle in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The fight was a tough one as expected, but at the very end of Round 8, Uzcátegui landed a left hook a second after the bell rang which dropped Dirrell and forced the referee to disqualify Uzcátegui.

Although Uzcátegui and Andre Dirrell embraced afterwards, Dirrell’s uncle, Leon Lawson Jr., attacked Uzcátegu with a mean left hook and right hand combination, though only the left hook landed.

The assault began a frenzy that resulted in Uzcátegui being under police protection while Lawson is currently wanted by police, as Showtime’s Jim Gray reported.
