On Saturday, September 17, 2016, Canelo Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) will face WBO Junior Middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The fight location was confirmed by The Ring and will air live on HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 pm, EST/6:00 pm PST.
The other location that was in contention to host the fight was the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but the homefield of Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys won out.
The stadium previously played host to Manny Pacquiao twice—in fights against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito–in 2010.
According to Wikipedia, the stadium seats 80,000, though Pacquiao’s fight against Clottey hosted a fraction of that at 41,843.
An official announcement announcing Dallas as the fight location is expected early next week.
Canelo has previously packed huge crowds in Texas, against James Kirkland at Minute Maid Park in Houston and against Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
