On Saturday, March 18, 2017, Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) takes on the unenviable task of trying to stop the Middleweight juggernaut that is Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Golovkin–who has become one of the best known boxers in the world for his exciting “Mexican Style” brand of boxing–has knocked out 23 consecutive fighters.

Everyday online you can read a new critique of how good–or how mediocre–a fighter is, and once that fighter reaches higher notoriety, the critiques come more often and in larger numbers.

Golovkin is no exception.

People fill up discussion boards claiming that the heavy-hitting Kazakh is just basic. That he’s protected. And of course, that he hasn’t fought anyone.

But Jacobs is not one of that mindset. He knows the difficult task that is staring him in the face so much so that he has moved his camp across the country from New York to California to focus.

“It’s the biggest fight of my career so I have to make sacrifices by leaving home and coming here, there’s too many distractions in New York. Being away adds to that motivation, it’s a sacrifice missing my 8-year-old son, but it makes me know that everything is worth it,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs is using every resource imaginable, including adding Chris Algieri as a nutritionist.

“In addition to having Andre Rozier as my trainer, bringing aboard Chris Algieri was a great addition. He’s able to help with my nutrition plus he’s fought on the biggest stages in the biggest fights which helps me.”

Jacobs is leaving no stone unturned for March 18–and that means preparing more than one game plan for Golovkin.

“Gennady is a great fighter; we’ll have multiple game plans to approach the fight. They can plan ahead or overlook me, but I’m coming to be victorious on March 18,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs will be fighting in his backyard, but because of Golovkin’s stardom, Jacobs admits that he’ll be entering GGG‘s domain.

“I’m a true underdog fighting at Madison Square Garden, although I’ve fought there in the past it’s really Gennady’s home.”

Whether this fight goes the distance is anyone’s guess, but with 35 consecutive stoppages between the two of them, chances are that it won’t be up to the judges to declare a winner.

“I have no idea how it ends, whether by decision or knockout but I will be victorious,” said Jacobs.
