Day Three Results From the 2016 Junior Olympic and Prep National Championships and Youth Open in Dallas
DALLAS, TEXAS (JUNE 30, 2016) – More than 900 athletes registered for the inaugural USA Boxing Junior Olympic and Prep National Championships and Youth Open and after three full days of competition, only semifinalists and finalists remain in contention at the event. The tournament is being held in conjunction with the Dallas Sports Festival, a multi-sport event also featuring volleyball and fencing.
Once again, the younger athletes took the ring first at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center with boxers as small as 55 pounds in the PeeWee age group up to 154 pounds in the intermediate division competing in the day’s early action.
The junior females and youth divisions took over all four rings in the later session, competing in quarterfinal competition. The junior men will return to competition alongside the youth division boxers on Friday in Dallas.
2012 Olympian and welterweight contender Errol Spence (Desoto, Texas) will headline the Dallas Sports Commission’s Olympic Day celebration on Friday afternoon at 2:30 in Hall A of the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center. USA Boxing Junior Olympic and Prep National Championships competition will resume in one session at 4 p.m. on Friday in Area A of the convention center.
The first-time event boasts nearly 900 athletes competing for national titles in USA Boxing’s largest national championship event ever. For full tournament brackets and bout sheets, click here.
