On Sunday, August 21, 2016, Welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) scored an impressive sixth-round knockout against Leonard Bundu (33-1-2, 12 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round IBF eliminator from the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn.

The fight was televised on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC.

Spence, a 26-year-old Olympian who lives in Texas, has been on the fast track to a world title fight after his destruction of Chris Algieri earlier this year.

Spence took another strong step towards a title shot after successfully defeating Bundu, a 41-year-old Italian fighter who had his moments in the early rounds.

Indeed, in Round 1, Bundu came forward aggressively and landed several shots, but Spence kept his composure and, measuring his opponent with touch jabs of his right hand, looked for hard shots that earned him the earlier rounds.

As the rounds progressed, Spence became more and more accurate, and by Round 5, Spence was in complete control.

In Round 6, Spence landed a hard left uppercut that sent Bundu down. A few seconds later, Spence landed another left uppercut followed by a right hook that ended matters right then and there.

“Come on. His manager said I didn’t want to fight him. He can drop out of the Triple G fight and fight me right now,” said Spence after the fight.

“I want a shot at Kell Brook as soon as he’s done with Triple G. If he doesn’t want to fight, he should vacate,” said Spence.

In other words, it doesn’t matter who it is, Spence wants the IBF title by whatever means.

After the fight, Bundu spoke about Spence’s performance and compared him to Keith Thurman.

“He looked fresh in every round. He was really good–remained in control. Errol was more precise than Keith Thurman. With Keith, every fight is a power punch. You feel them. Errol threw more, but they didn’t all hurt,” said Bundu.
