Saturday, October 18, 2014, K2 Promotions, GGG Promotions and Promociones Del Pueblo presented “Mexican Style.”
The card was headlined by one of boxing’s fastest rising stars, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (30-0-0, 27 KOs) as he defended his WBA and IBO Middleweight World Titles against WBC Interim Champion Marco Antonio “El Veneno” Rubio (59-6-1 (51 KOs) in the 12-round main event.
The co-featured bout was a featherweight showdown between 2012 Fighter of the Year and four-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (33-2-0, 21 KOs) and undefeated world champion Nicholas “The Axe Man” Walters (24-0-0, 20 KOs) who battled it out to determine the undisputed WBA Featherweight world champion.
The first televised bout of the evening between Walters and Donaire ended in a brutal TKO in Round 6.
Walters ended Donaire’s night–and possibly career–with a massive overhand right.
In the main event, Gennady Golovkin continued his KO streak by making quick work of Marco Antonio Rubio, ending the bout in Round 2.
