Keith Thurman (24-0, 21 KOs) defeated Leonard Bundu (31-1-2, 11 KOs) via unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 12-round fight was the co-main event of a quadruple-header presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Showtime Championship Boxing.

Thurman, 26, of Clearwater, Florida, nearly stopped Bundu in the first round after switching to southpaw to knock Bundu down with powerful shot.

Bundu, 40, of Italy, returned to his feet to lose nearly every round, but his awkwardness made it very hard for Thurman to land fight-ending combinations.

Thurman landed punches in spots throughout the fight and chose to duck and slip after landing one or two punches before moving around to pick again.

Thurman was vociferously booed by the crowd because chose not engage in this fight, despite coming off from an eight-month layoff.

All judges scored the bout 120-107 for Thurman.

In his post-fight interview with Showtime’s Jim Gray, Thurman said he wants Marcos Maidana.

“I see you! Let’s go! Two power punchers at the MGM Grand! Let’s do it,” concluded Thurman.

Thurman’s footwork poses a stylistic problem for Maidana, while Maidana’s elite-level power is something Thurman has not experienced yet.
