OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:

“Good afternoon and welcome to today’s press conference for this special edition of LA Fight Club on Friday, July 1 at the historic Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles featuring the LAPD vs. NYPD on the undercard of Oscar Negrete vs. Jose Bustos, to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“Golden Boy Promotions is very proud to support our brave men and women in law enforcement who will come out tomorrow to kick off this Fourth of July weekend to show their boxing talents for this great cause at LA FIGHT CLUB.

“This West Coast meets East Coast showdown between the LAPD and NYPD will open the amateur undercard fights and will surely be entertaining and good fun for the crowd. Afterwards, there will be three professional fights to follow for the televised portion of the night.

“Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from this fight will directly benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. As many of you know, this is an issue that is very near and dear to my heart after losing my own mother to breast cancer in 1990. I’m so proud of everyone involved for their support of this event that will help bring awareness and raise money for such an important cause.”

CHARLIE BECK,

“It is a privilege to be here with you all, representing the two biggest cities in the nation, and the people they are policed by.

“I see how hard they work and they are great representatives of the City of Los Angeles, the LAPD, as well as NYPD, and I am proud to have them fight on behalf of a great organization, and for a great cause.”

JOHN NEGRETE, LAPD Officer and Organizer of the LAPD Boxing Club :

“Several months back I asked the Los Angeles Police Boxing Club if they were willing to take the best team on the East Coast. Naturally, I reached out to Oscar De La Hoya, and the next thing we know, we have an entire show put together benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“We want to show everybody here in LA who their police department is. With that said, we want people to come out and support us and see that Los Angeles Police Officers and New York Police Officers are not afraid to step in the ring, are not afraid to lace their gloves, and are not afraid to support their charities. Thank you all very much for your support.”

OSCAR NEGRETE, Super Bantamweight Prospect:

“I want to thank God for such an amazing opportunity, and for my entire team at Golden Boy Promotions. I am responsible for putting on a good show tomorrow, and I promise to deliver one to all the boxing fans out there.”

EMILIO SANCHEZ, Super Bantamweight Prospect:

“Good afternoon. I want to thank everyone on my team, Golden Boy Promotions, and my manager Frank Espinoza. I am ready to put on a great show for everybody on July 1st.”

NIKO VALDES, Super Middleweight Prospect:

“Good afternoon, I am honored to be here supporting such a great event. I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities, I felt a tug in my heart to dedicate my entire purse once I win to the Susan G Komen Foundation. Thank you all and see you tomorrow.”

MARK PILON, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen L.A. County: “Thank you Oscar and Chief Beck for bringing in the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We work with challenged communities within Los Angeles, especially our Latino and African American communities and help provide them with services such as screenings and mammograms.

“Every year, 6000 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and at least 1000 will lose their battle. 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast cancer- that means 1 out 8 women here in this crowd will one day be positive for breast cancer. This is a terrible phenomenon, and we at the Susan G. Komen Foundation want to make a difference.

“It was a special year this year, as we have donated to White Memorial for Oscar’s foundation. Please, everyone, share with your relatives a regular regime of getting a mammogram. I am looking forward to these fights, as they will be my first.”
