According to Manny Pacquiao, he spoke with Floyd Mayweather Jr. last weekend in Las Vegas after his WBO Welterweight championship victory over Jessie Vargas (per Boxing Scene).

Although Pacquiao and Mayweather did in fact meet, the Filipino Senator stated that the subject of a rematch was never brought up.

“We didn’t talk about the rematch. We just greeted each other when I invited him in my place after the fight,” said Pacquiao (via The Manila Times).

Pacquiao has gone on record saying that he is eager to avenge his 2015 loss to Mayweather and that he feels he has something to prove to the fans.

“I believe if there is a rematch, or if it happens, I want to make sure the fans will love it and I will give everything to get back their trust,” said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao also feels that the contract negotiations for a second clash with Mayweather would not be nearly as difficult the second time around.

“Because we now have direct contact to them it would be easier to talk about when there will be a rematch,” said Pacquiao.

The first fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, which became the richest in boxing history, was billed as “The Fight of the Century,” but failed to live up to expectations in the ring.

Although many fans grumbled about the outcome of the first fight and the lack of action, when Mayweather appeared ringside last weekend for Pacquiao-Vargas, Twitter and Instagram comments exploded with talk of a rematch.

If Mayweather does indeed come out of retirement in 2017, a rematch with Pacquiao would still seem to be a hot ticket.

“Not only for myself, but the fans of boxing want the rematch then why not,” said Pacquiao last weekend at his luxury suite at the Wynn hotel and casino.

“I guess the rematch is possible if he [Mayweather] comes out of retirement. He is retired,” added Pacquiao.

“As what I’ve said, we didn’t discuss that [a rematch]. I’m thankful to all your supports and prayers. I returned immediately because I have work to do in the office,” said Pacquiao.

Top Rank Founder and CEO, Bob Arum also discussed the possibility of a Mayweather and Pacquiao recently and feels confident that the fight could happen, even though no official talks have begun.

“I have not spoken to Mayweather, not with [Mayweather’s adviser] Al Haymon. It’s just my opinion [the rematch has a 75-percent chance of happening], which is as valid as [the opinion of] anyone else,” said Arum (per ABS CBN News).

“Obviously if Mayweather decides to come out of retirement that would be the fight for Manny,” said Arum. “But if not, [Terence] Crawford would be the choice.”

If Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao face off in a rematch, who do you think would win?
