November 12: Imamu Mayfield Will Take on Anthony Caputo Smith

Former world Cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield will take on Anthony Caputo Smith in a cruiserweight bout scheduled for six-round on Saturday, November 12 at the newly renovated Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (November 9th, 2016)–Former world Cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield will take on Anthony Caputo Smith in a cruiserweight bout scheduled for six-round on Saturday, November 12 at the newly renovated Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

The card is promoted by Rising Promotions.

Mayfield of Perth Amboy, New Jersey has a record of 25-10-1 with 18 knockouts.

Mayfield started his career in 1994 and went to go 18-1 with wins over Lew Chester (1-0), Ismael Gneco (3-0), Ernest Mateen (23-5-1) and an IBF world title winning effort over Uriah Grant.

Mayfield one successful defense of the title with an 11th round stoppage over Terry Dunston (17-0) in England.

Mayfield received one more crack at the world title as he was stopped by then-WBC champion Juan Carlos Gomez. Mayfield has wins over Gary Wilcox (15-2), former heavyweight title challenger Okello Peter (11-2). Mayfield has suffered losses to former world champions Jorge Castro, Alexander Povetkin and Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

In his last bout, Mayfield came back from a eight-year retirement to drop a six-round unanimous decision to Dan Pasciolla (6-1-1) on March 19th at The Claridge.

“I feel good. I am back down to my fighting weight and I am excited about the future,” said Mayfield. “Caputo Smith is a fighter who has been around for a little while, and he knows how to fight, and I am not taken him lightly. I am going to train and get ready for him like everybody else. I am anxious to see how everything comes out with me coming back down to cruiserweight.”

Smith of Kennett Square, PA. has a record of 15-7 with 10 knockouts.

The 31 year-old Smith has been a professional for seven years and he won his first thirteen bouts. Smith has faced world title challengers BJ Flores and Ola Afolabi.

In his last bout, Smith was stopped by Travis Reeves on December 12, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland.

“I think its a good fight for me. I think whoever loses is kind of done. We a re both putting a lot into this.,” said Caputo Smith. ” If this turns into a real fight, he will be in real trouble. I respect that he is a former world champion. He is like me, he will fight anyone. It should be a fan-friendly fight. We will see where we are at. The winner should get a big shot. I have had a real training camp for for this fight, It is not like a one or two week notice thing. I want to thank everyone for their continued support. Come out on November 12th, It should be a good fight.”

Undercard four-round Bouts:

Coming off a quick 28 second first round knockout over Jonathan Hafely back on October 10th, Heavyweight Quian Davis (3-0-2, 1 KO) of Mays Landing, New Jersey takes on his toughest foe to date in Antonio Robertson (4-5-1) of Alexandria,VA.

Pro debuting super lightweight Dan Murray of Manahawkin, New Jersey takes on Antonio Allen (0-3) of Philadelphia.

Donald “No Love” Smith (2-0) of Philadelphia takes on Pro debuting Darrell Wheeler Jr. of Opelousas, LA.

Cruiserweight David Sparks (2-0) of Brooklyn, NY meets Chauncey Foxworth (0-1) of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Featherweight Deion Sparks of Brooklyn, NY makes his long awaited Pro Debut against Newark, New Jersey’s Marquis Pierce.

Welterweight Greg Jackson of Philadelphia, by way of Atlantic City, battles Dawond Pickney (1-1-1) of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Rounding out the card will be Yurik Mamedov (2-0) of New York, NY by way of Russia scapping with Oscar Valdez (1-1) of Batesville, Arkansas in a welterweight showdown.

The fight card will fall on the 25th birthday of promoter Thomas LaManna. LaManna, who is also a welterweight contender is coming off a great effort in losing a close decision to Dusty Hernandez-Harrison on September 15th in Philadelphia.

I’m really excited to be doing another show at the Claridge. I’m even more excited to have my new signees fight for first time under RSP,” said LaManna. ” I’ve known Isiah, Marvin and Dallas for a long time, since amateurs, and I’m happy to have them on the roster. The Sparks brothers have tremendous talent and I look forward to seeing how they do in the pros. They have a great manager in Rich Masini so I know they will be well taken care of.”

LaManna continued, “Quian Davis is a former pro baseball player, and now he’s an undefeated boxer. To me he’s an example of the saying that age is just a number, and that’s why I support him.”

“This will be the pro debut of Dan Murray, and I’m excited as he draws a big crowd and he can fight. Dan was brought to me by his adviser and my trainer Ray McCline, President of the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame, and after looking at him, I see a bright future for him.”

“Not getting the decision in such a close fight is hard to take, but I won’t let it stop me in my path to achieving my goal of becoming a world champion.
