On Showtime Extreme’s televised coverage of the undercard of the Light Heavyweight fight between Julio Cesar Chavez and Andrzej Fonfara, Moises Flores (22-0, 16 KOs) and Omar Chavez (32-3-1, 22 KOs) scored tough decision wins.

Flores, who headlined the undercard coverage from the the StubHub Center in Carson, California, scored a close split decision victory over Oscar Escandon to win the interim Super Bantamweight title.

Escandon, who had just won the title in December, lost it in his first defense against Moises Flores, though the scorecards reflect a fight in which both fighters had their momenta.

Escandon did well in the early rounds to push Flores back to land punches, but it was Flores who had the better moments with his use of height and reach advantages.

Flores won with scores of 112,116, 112-116, and 115-113.

Omar Chavez, the brother of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, scored an 8-round unanimous decision against Richard Gutierrez in a Middleweight fight.

Chavez allowed the fight to get close in the opening rounds, but pushed Gutierrez with shots to the body and head to dominate the later rounds.

Chavez won with scores of 77-75, 77-75, and 78-74.
