On Saturday, July 26, 2014, Gennady Golovkin scored another impressive knockout against an over-matched opponent.
But this time, that opponent was a legitimate top 10 contender in the division.
Daniel Geale said all the right things in the lead up to the fight, which gave people the impression that he might stand a chance.
But once the bell rang–and didn’t ring–Golovkin made it clear that he is a step above most, if not all, fighters at 160 pounds.
During the post-fight presser, Golovkin reiterated that he wants to face any and all challengers at 160 pounds, and also would really like to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
It remains to be seen if the lineal Middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto, will step up to the plate to unify the titles against Golovkin.
At this point in time, it’s hard to imagine anyone at 154 or 160 pounds with the ability to stop GGG.
