RESULTS:

Erislandy Lara vs. Vanes Martirosyan

Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) is defending his WBA Junior Middleweight title in a rematch against Vanes “Nightmare” Martirosyan (36-2-1, 21 KOs). The two met four years ago in Las Vegas in a back-and-forth battle in which Lara dominated in the early rounds, but Martirosyan came on strong late before the bout was stopped due to a cut.

In the first round, Martirosyan is landing clean right hands as Lara seems to be looking to find his rhythm. As the fight continues, Lara shows off he exceptional defensive skills — great footwork and head movement. As Lara becomes more comfortable, he is closing the range.

Martirosyan came out of the corner in the fifth round hungry — with referee Vic Drakulich pushing him back. Martirosyan is landing clean body shots, but Lara seems relatively unfazed. Lara is beginning to throw more punches while continuing to stay mobile. Working from the outside, Lara is beginning to frustrate Martirosyan.

The crowd begins to “Boo” in the eighth round because there isn’t as much action as they’d like to see. Lara lands a straight right that stops Martirosyan in his place momentarily — but he shakes his head and continues forward as if it didn’t faze him. Martirosyan continues to land the occasional body shot.

At the beginning of Round 10, the fighters are exchanging. But Lara quickly reestablishes the distance between them — working the ring. Martirosyan continues to get frustrated with Lara’s defensive style going into the eleventh round. Vic Drakulich takes a point away from Martirosyan for “excessive” low blows. At the end of Round 11, the “Boos” continue.

We are in the 12th and final round of the evening, Martirosyan is throwing everything he can — including his elbows. Lara continues to walk backwards but Martirosyan is pressuring him as much as possible.

The fight goes to the scorecards — Adalaide Byrd scores the bout 115-122 and both, Steve Weisfeld & Patricia Morse Jarman score the bout 116-111. And still champion, “The American Dream” Erislandy Lara, he improves his record to 23-2-2, 13 KOs.

Jermall Charlo vs. Austin Trout

Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) is defending his IBF Junior Middleweight title against Austin Trout (30-2, 17 KOs). In the first round, both fighters were trying to get a feel for each other. Trout did stumble to the canvas as their feet got tangled — which happens often when an orthodox and southpaw fight.

Charlo has established himself as the aggressor in Round 3, he has been able to land several clean straight rights but Trout is countering effectively. Trout is trying to use his jab and footwork to keep Charlo at bay. The two fighters are fighting at a close distance, both exchanging and landing.

Charlo continues to pressure Trout, but Trout is doing a good job of working the ring and avoiding getting caught up against the ropes. As the fight continues, both fighters are throwing and landing — Charlo is landing harder and more frequently. Round 7 was a great round for both fighters, they both landed and ate some big punches.

It seems as though Charlo has taken control of this fight going into Round 9. Charlo’s aggression and pressure look to be frustrating “No Doubt” Trout. Charlo’s right hand is the difference maker in this fight. The ninth round was a good round for Trout as he was the first to throw in exchanges.

In the eleventh round, Trout is boxing light on his feet and his throwing quick combinations but a cut has opened up over Trout’s right eye. We are in the 12th and final round of the fight and both fighters are playing it safe.

The fight goes to the scorecards — John McKaie scores the bout 115-113, while Glenn Feldman and Burt Clements both score the bout 116-112. And still the IBF Junior Middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo, he wins the bout via unanimous decision and improves his record to 24-0, 18 KOs.

Jermell Charlo vs. John Jackson

Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (27-0, 12 KOs) is looking to maintain his undefeated, blemish-free record while John “Da Rock” Jackson (20-2, 15 KOs) is here to make a statement. The vacant Super Welterweight title is on the line.

Both fighters came out of their corners swinging but neither have landed anything substantial in the first minute of Round 1. Jackson is using his head movement making Charlo miss. Jackson is coming on strong — he has Charlo up against the ropes, landing clean head shots.

Charlo has seemed to get into his groove in Round 3, but Jackson is relentless as he continues to move forward in attack. Jackson’s combinations look effortless — landing clean shots. Charlo needs to start letting his hands go more.

Charlo lands a clean left hook that stuns Jackson in Round 5. Charlo is getting more confident in his attack, landing a flurry of vicious head and body shots. Jackson continues to use his footwork and head movement, making it difficult for Charlo to cut off the ring and land many punches.

Coming out of his corner in Round 8, Charlo has begun to let his hands go again. Charlo throws a devastating overhand right that stops Jackson in his place. Charlo jumps on him again, landing a mean left — referee Tony Weeks jumps in and stops the fight.

And the new WBC Super Welterweight champion, Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo. He improves his record to 28-0, 13 KOs.

Beibut Shumenov vs. Junior Anthony Wright

Both fighters Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) and Junior Anthony Wright (15-1-1, 12 KOs) look eager to fight as the first bell rings to start to the bout. Though Shumenov seems to be throwing more punches, Wright is landing the cleaner shots in Round 1.

Going into Round 2, Shumenov looks as if he is going to focus his efforts on his defensive game — moving his feet and trying to avoid Wright’s heavy hands. For the most part, this tactic has seemed to be working for Shumenov, he has been able to land shots, meanwhile staying out of harms way.

Shumenov has now turned on the pressure, cornering Wright against the ropes. Shumenov is landing power punches left and right. Shumenov gets caught in Round 5, and he is knocked down — but he quickly gets up, hands raised assuring the referee he is okay.

Both fighters are looking to prove themselves, this fight has turned into an all out brawl. Shumenov has turned it on and it looks as if Wright won’t be able to take much more. Shumenov knocks Wright down twice in Round 8 with body shots, but Wright isn’t giving up.

The fight is stopped by the referee in Round 10 after Shumenov drops Wright again with a body shot. Beibut Shumenov wins via TKO and is still the WBA Crusherweight Champion.

BJ Flores vs. Roberto Santos

BJ Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) takes on Roberto Santos (12-3, 5 KOs) in a scheduled six round fight in the heavyweight division. In the first round, Flores has distinguished himself as the aggressor, but both fighters are landing clean head shots.

To start the second round, Flores lands a clean right hook that seems to stun Santos. As the crowd is relatively quiet, you can hear Flores’ corner screaming at him to work the body. As his corner continually yells, “To the body BJ,” Flores finally starts to throw to Santos’ body.

By Round 3, Flores has seemingly taken charge of this fight. Santos is fighting on his back foot as Flores continues to press forward. Flores along with landing body shot after body shot, is landing fierce uppercuts. Though Flores seems to have control of this fight, Santos hasn’t given up.

Going into the sixth round, both fighters are landing clean combinations and look hungrier than ever. The fight goes the distance and all three judges score the bout 60-54, and the winner by unanimous decision is BJ Flores.

Lanell Bellows vs. Scott Sigmon

Lanell “KO” Bellows (15-1-1, 8 KOs) is coming on strong in Round 1 against Scott “Cujo” Sigmon (26-8-1, 14 KOs). Lanell is doing a great job of cutting off the ring and pressuring Sigmon against the ropes, landing vicious head and body shots. As the first round wraps up, Bellows is looking extremely impressive and eager for more action.

At the end of the first round, the ring side physician stops the fight due to a cut over Scott Sigmon’s right eye. Lanell “KO” Bellows wins the bout via TKO and improves his record to 16-1-1, 9 KOs.

Trakwon Pettis vs. Carlos Rodriguez

Both fighters are landing clean shots in the first round, keeping a good  fighting distance. Carlos Rodriguez (19-18-4, 11 KOs) is landing clean right hooks, keeping Trakwon Pettis (3-0, 1 KO) at bay. Both fighters are exchanging, both landing clean shots. Pettis is using his impressive footwork to stay out of danger.
