Go ahead and let out a big sigh of relief–boxing in 2016 is almost over.

What a horrendous year for the sport. Half the year was spent talking about a retired boxer potentially fighting a guy who doesn’t even box, while the other half was spent salivating over a Middleweight clash that never came close to happening.

Okay, there was more than that, but it wasn’t much to write home about.

Yes folks, this is boxing.

While 2016 produced some certifiable instant classics such as Francisco Vargas vs. Orlando Salido and Jamie Conlan vs. Anthony Nelson, the year also gave us some head scratchers like Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan and Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook.

We won’t even get into Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora 2.

As usual, there were fights that never happened, suspect decisions and fights that just didn’t live up to the hype, but I suppose if we look hard enough, we can find more than a few bright spots as well.

There were plenty of surprises in 2016, like Jezreel Corrales’ early-year upset over Takashi Uchiyama and the fact that Tyson Fury never stepped into the ring.

After a week of open polls, over 300 fans voted and decided on the winners for 2016.

Check out the winners for each category below!

Fights that are already scheduled for 2017 were not included in the potential matchups section.
