The second bout of ShoBox’s 200th episode featured Cecil McCalla vs. Oscar Godoy in what turned out to be a one-sided beat down.

McCalla and Godoy both came in looking to box, with McCalla coming forward and Godoy boxing off his back foot.

Round 1 saw a lot of jabbing from both men, and was basically a feeling out process overall.

Describing his own strategy to winning the fight, Godoy said that he wanted to control the pace with his jab and mix in punches to the body. He stated that he would see how the pace of the fight went and adapt accordingly.

Unfortunately for Godoy, that strategy went out the window early. Godoy elected to trade power punches with McCalla in close quarters early in Round 2 and got the worst of it.

The story of the fight was McCalla consistently beating Godoy to the punch, landing hard hooks that backed Godoy up.

In rounds three and four, McCalla continued landing the cleaner combinations, smiling and having fun while the tough-as-nails Godoy played the punching bag.

Godoy began spending more and more time against the ropes and McCalla took advantage of his bigger frame, working Godoy over from corner to corner.

By Round 6, Showtime’s commentating–while impressed with McCalla’s performance–began looking for a “close the show” type of knockout. It was a reasonable request because of how dominant McCalla was throughout the fight.

The last round saw Godoy hammered some more and honestly it was a little unncessary. McCalla wasn’t able to get the knockout, but everything was working en route to landing 56 percent of his power punches–168 of 301.

The fight went to the cards with McCalla winning by scores of 79-73 and 80-72 twice.

With the victory, Cecil McCalla moves to 19-0, 6 KOs and Godoy drops to 13-3, 6 KOs.
