Keith “One Time” Thurman defended his WBA World Welterweight Title against “Showtime” Shawn Porter in a highly anticipated 147-pound bout at Barclays Center on June 25, 2016.
This fight, scheduled for 12-rounds, aired live on CBS as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
Porter came into the fight as the aggressor, rushing Thurman and often forcing him into the ropes, while Keith Thurman used his jab and quick reflexes to keep Porter at bay.
Both fighters took every opportunity possible to throw power punches, many of which landed. Thurman was able to daze Porter in rounds 3, 4 and 10 by landing multiple head shots.
Porter effectively worked Thurman’s body, hurting him in round 8. Porter was also able to cause Thurman’s first cut of his career. Neither fighter went down during the bout.
The fight eventually went the distance without losing any steam. In the end, all three judges scored the fight the same at 115-113 in favor of Keith Thurman who remains undefeated with a record of 27-0 and retains his WBA World Welterweight Title.
