Polish-born, Brooklyn native, Adam Kownacki (17-0, 14 KOs) played to the crowd at Barclays Center and put on quite a show Saturday night, January 20, 2018.

Kownacki squared off with Freddie Roach pupil, Iago Kiladze (26-2 18 KOs) in an undercard attraction on the Errol Spence vs. Lamont Peterson fight card.

Kownacki pressed Kiladze for the entirety of the bout and provided great entertainment for the Brooklyn crowd.

The Polish Heavyweight sensation would drop Kiladze in the fourth and seemed on the verge of almost closing the show early on. Somehow, Kiladze managed to scrape by the round and pressed on.

At this point, Kiladze was completely gassed and Kownacki sensed the sweet feel of victory in his grasp. Both Heavyweights made it a slugfest from the get-go but it was Kownacki who come out on top at the end of the sixth round.

Beaten and left with little equilibrium, Kiladze was dropped once again with 50 seconds left in the sixth round. Referee Shada Murdaugh counted a few seconds before calling an end to the fight. “I think I made the fight a lot harder than I should have,” said Kownacki. “It’s another learning experience and I got the win. This win helps me move towards where I need to be. I want to be in the top 10 and I think I’m close to that.”

Kownacki may start to make a splash in the Heavyweight division that in the last two years has seen a healthy growth in boxing talent.
