On Friday, December 19, 2014, lineal and WBC Light Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (25-1, 21 KOs) knocked out Dmitry Sukhotsky (22-3, 16 KOs) in the fifth round of a scheduled 12-round fight at the Colisee de Quebec in Quebec City, Canada.
The fight was the main event of a card presented by GYM Promotions and Showtime Sports.
Stevenson, who had a spectacular 2013 in which he knocked out Chad Dawson, Tavoris Cloud and Tony Bellew, ended a less exciting year by stopping an opponent who could hardly be ranked in the top 10 of the Light Heavyweight division.
Nevertheless, the 37-year-old native of Haiti, made quick work of Sukhotsky, 33, of Pavlovsk, Russia.
Stevenson dropped Sukhotsky once in Round 2 and three times in Round 5 before the referee stopped the fight.
Stevenson’s left hand remains a powerful force in the Light Heavyweight division and a fight with WBA, IBF and WBO Light Heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev is on everyone’s Christmas wishlist.
“He has to come to me. I beat the man, so I’m the man,” said Stevenson about a possible fight with Kovalev.
“I’ll let Al Haymon and Yvon Michel take care of that. My job is to go in the ring and knock anybody out,” said Stevenson.
