In only his second fight as a 147-pounder, Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) scored a shutout unanimous decision win over former IBF titlist Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada

The 12-round championship bout–which was fought for Khan’s WBC Silver Welterweight title–was presented by Golden Boy Promotions and shown live on Showtime Championship Boxing.

Khan, 28, of the United Kingdom, completely outclassed Alexander in nearly every round with a quick jab, right hand and left hooks.

Khan was not only too fast for Alexander, but also used his reach and height advantage to prevent Alexander from landing punches.

“I was under my feet more, I was boxing because I know I’ve got to be smart in there and to not get carried away,” said Khan, who credited trainer Virgil Hunter for his defensive and offensive improvements in his past few fights.

Alexander, 27, of Saint Louis, Missouri, landed occasional left hands but was completely lost after Khan established his jab in the earlier rounds.

“He was the better man tonight. I wasn’t getting off like I planned,” said Alexander, who had a lot of trouble coming forward, something he is not used to doing.

“I know how to come forward sometimes, but I was supposed to follow my gameplan…but I wasn’t getting off,” concluded Alexander.

Khan believes he has earned a fight with Floyd Mayweather, stating, “I really believe that Floyd will have big problems with my speed, movement, and accuracy.”

Whether or not that fight will happen remains to be seen.
