Anthony Dirrell (26-0-1, 22 KOs) scored a unanimous decision victory over Sakio Bika (32-6-3, 21 KOs) to win the WBC Super Middleweight crown at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.

The 12-round fight was the co-main event of a triple-header presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Showtime Sports.

In what was often more of a wrestling match than a boxing fight, Dirrell managed to land short punches on the inside as well as counter punches on the outside on an aggressive and reckless Bika.

Dirrell, a 29-year-old native of Flint, Michigan, managed to use his defensive skills to avoid most of Bika’s reckless offense.

Bika, on the other hand, spent much of the fight grappling with Dirrell, getting hit by him and, at times, tumbling to the floor with him.

The 35-year-old native of Sydney, Australia had Dirrell on the ropes at certain points during the fight, but his wide stance made him the target of several countershots.

In rounds seven and eleven, for example, Bika had Dirrell on the ropes, but his wide punches could not compete with the shorter and straighter punches of Dirrell.

“I fought smart, boxed and stayed off the ropes,” Dirrell told Showtime’s Jim Gray in his post-fight interview.

The judges scored the bout 114-115, 116-111, and 117-110 for Dirrell.
