In perhaps the most unsurprising result of the year, Anthony Joshua retained his title against journeyman Eric Molina, finishing his man off in the third round.

Joshua, who was an overwhelmingly huge favorite against Molina, didn’t have to do much other than show up, jab, and throw a couple right hands before managing to get his fists through Molina’s guard, knocking him like an anvil to the canvas in the third.

Molina rose to his feet at the count of nine, much to the referee’s chagrin and decided he was fit to continue.

It didn’t take much more for Joshua as he pummeled Molina against the ropes and Molina was taken out of the fight on his feet.

Molina never presented much resistance as it seemed he didn’t land a single significant punch on Joshua throughout the entire bout.

Going forward, this victory for Joshua sets up a potential fight with Wladimir Klitschko as Joshua aims to cement himself as the biggest force to be reckoned with in the Heavyweight division.

Klitschko, a ring veteran of two decades, aims to reposition himself as a top fighter by beating a young man who has been apparently unstoppable in all his 18 bouts so far.

At the end of the fight, Joshua showed respect to his overwhelmed opponent as he walked over to his corner and raised Molina’s arm, giving the man credit for lasting as long as he did.

There is little doubt that the Joshua train is barreling its way to the top of the Heavyweight picture, and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping.

Joshua is liable to step up his competition level in 2017 with fights against the likes of Klitschko and brewing rivalries with fellow Heavyweight title holders Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder.
