Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) retained his 100% knockout ratio with a seventh-round stoppage of Alexander Johnson (16-3, 7 KOs) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.

The scheduled 10-round Light Heavyweight fight was the co-main event of the June 12th edition of PBC on Spike, with Super Welterweights Erislandy Lara and Delvin Rodriguez headlining the card.

Beterbiev, 30, pushed forward with a comfort that participation in several world tournaments could only bestow in such an early career.

Johnson, sensing Beterbiev’s power, was on his back foot for the first half of the fight as Beterbiev slowly found his range and began landing right hands to the body and left hooks to his head.

In Round 5, Beterbiev’s incessant pressure led to a check hook that dropped Johnson. Johnson got back to his feet, but only to be dropped by a right uppercut before the round ended.

Johnson’s corner asked him to be more aggressive in order to prevent them from stopping the fight. Johnson began Round 6 with a newfound aggression, but two knockdowns in Round 7 finally but an end to the fight.

This was the first time that the Russian-born fighter had gone past the fourth round, but Beterbiev nonetheless said it was a good thing as it gave him more experience in his professional career.

Beterbiev is definitely headed for a world title fight in the future, but it remains to be seen how soon that will be.
