Billy Joe Saunders

Billy Joe Saunders Hiding from Daniel Jacobs?

Undefeated WBO Middleweight titleholder, Billy Joe Saunders is fresh off a one-sided boxing lesson victory over hard-hitting former IBF titleholder, David Lemieux.

Saunders is now set to face Martin Murray next on April 14 in what will seemingly be Murray’s 4,375th attempt at a title.

In the meanwhile, former WBA “regular” titleholder, Daniel Jacobs is set to face Maciej Sulecki April 28 at Barclays Center.

But, according to Jacobs’ manager Keith Connolly, after the Brooklyn boxers last fight–a one-sided win over Luis Arias–Jacobs wanted to explore a fight with Saunders. Connolly states that while Saunders talks a good game, he had no interest in that matchup.

Since both men will be fighting in April–only two weeks apart–perhaps a fight at the end of 2018 is possible if they both come out on top against their respective opponents.

Saunders is promoted by Frank Warren, while Jacobs is aligned with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, so it wouldn’t be exactly a walk in the park to make the fight.

What is more likely to happen is that Saunders will mop the floor with Murray and then wait to score a lucrative fight against the winner of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, which takes place on May 5.

For now it looks like Jacobs will be on the outside looking in regarding title fights at 160.
