Now that we’re all starting to calm down from the high after the big announcement, we can start to focus on the important details that have been released so far (via ESPN‘s Dan Rafael).

  • Tickets: If you want ‘em, you better be ready to pay for ‘em. This big event is expected to have a little over 16,000 tickets, but only 1,000 or less will be available to the general public. Reason being that the high demand for tickets between promotional companies and of course the MGM Grand casino. Bob Arum told ESPN Las Vegas on Monday that ringside tickets will be available to anyone with a $250,000 credit line at the MGM Casino. So, you’re best bet is to watch at home from your couch, where you can expect to pay around $100 for PPV.

  • The Undercard: Speaking of PPV, you can expect to see three fights in total. Two undercard fights and the main event. One bout will be a Top Rank matched bout, and the other a bout matched by Mayweather Promotions. No word on any of these fights yet, but 7 total fights will round out the entire card.
  •

  • Cross-Country Promotional Tour: Don’t expect one. According to the contract, only one press conference in March will kick things off for the fight, and of course a final press conference during fight week is all both fighters are required to attend. The first press conference has no location set, but most likely LA or New York will be announced.
  • May 2 seems so far away, but it will come up rather quickly. RBRBoxing will bring you all the info as it is released.

Al Haymon Continues to Shake up the Boxing World, and Adding Some Sneaky Moves into His Dance Card

Last week it was announced that Gary Russell Jr. was to face Jhonny Gonzalez on Showtime March 28 at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. The news disappointed so many as boxing heads were hoping to see the blood bath between Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov on the same date at the exact same venue. Obviously, that wasn’t going to work, so HBO happily took the fight to Verona, NY set for April 18.

In an interesting turn of events, Leijah-Battah promotions (via ThaBoxingVoice), the ticket promoter for Haymon and Golden Boy, announced they were selling tickets for Gonzalez and Russell taking place at The Alamodome in San Antonio! Seemed the old switcheroo was meant to keep Golden Boy from cashing in on the Matthysse-Provo fight.

However, just a short time later, Leijah-Battah retracted their statement about moving the fight to San Antonio, but it was not confirmed whether or not the March 28 card will head back to Stub Hub. Hopefully once the announcement was made about the move, Golden Boy called up the west coast boxing venue to reserve it. This is just wishful thinking as the news is still developing and nothing has been set in stone yet.

    GGG

After his TKO victory this past weekend, Gennady Golovkin made it clear he wants all the titles and hopes for a matchup with lineal Middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto. A very quiet Cotto has not answered any questions about who he is to face next, although his team states he will most likely be ready to step back in the ring in June. Perfect time to face GGG, but the twitter world is buzzing with talks of Timothy Bradley vs. Cotto.

One man who made a buzz of his own is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who took to his Twitter account after the Golovkin win.

Boxing Scene reported the next day that Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, says Golovkin accepted the bet and answered with, “Sign the contract this time.” Last year Top Rank tried to match up Golovkin with Chavez and it was rumored Chavez turned down $7 million for that fight. Chavez is set to face Andrzej Fonfara on April 18–all bark and no bite.
