Although it is Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding fight week, much of the talk on Tuesday, December 11 has centered around a potential Canelo vs. Gennady Golovkin 3 mathcup at T-Mobile Arena on May 4, 2019.
Where has all the hype come from you ask?
According to Steve Kim of ESPN.com, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has listed a Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions event for May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
But, it seems that many people are jumping the gun because according to Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions, it is the NSAC’s assumption that the date is reserved for Canelo vs. GGG.
“We’re putting a hold on that date. That’s it,” said GBP president Eric Gomez (via ESPN). “They’re assuming. We put a hold on that date for Canelo, May 4.”
And, according to Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions, he is in the dark regarding the reservation on May 4.
“That’s a Golden Boy question,” said Loeffler. “They requested the date.”
But, in a recent interview with Tha Boxing Voice, Ak of DAZN‘s “Ak and Barak” confirmed that GGG is a lock to sign with DAZN and that there have been early talks for a third bout with Canelo.
🤷♂️ One to approach with caution, but relevant given what's come out already today. DAZN presenter 'AK' of 'AK & Barak' tells @ThaBoxingVoice he's heard of negotiations for Canelo v GGG III and claims GGG to DAZN is set to be announced soon. (32:30-33:30)https://t.co/XcHpUzNQgK

So will there be a third fight between Canelo and GGG? We’ll obviously have to wait and see what happens this weekend at Madison Square Garden. But, if Canelo handles business like he is expected to, expect speculation to heat up throughout the holiday season.
