According to ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, Oscar De La Hoya is in talks with Matchroom Boxing‘s Eddie Hearn to make a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs on September 15.

De La Hoya reportedly told ESPN that, “The Canelo train has left the station,” meaning that a rematch between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin could be dead.

“If GGG ever comes to his senses we can fight next year if he wants for Cinco de Mayo,” said De La Hoya.

“I tell you one thing–the money he would make for Canelo he now has to fight five or six opponents to make that kind of money. We’ve moved on.”

De La Hoya has spoken out of turn in the past, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tom Loeffler and Eric Gomez announce something different in a day or two.

But, if Canelo and Jacobs do tango on Mexican Independence Day weekend–who would win?
