Chris Algieri (22-3, 8 KOs) made his return to the ring on Friday, November 30, 2018 as he cruised to a unanimous-decision victory over the tough, but ultimately over matched Angel Hernandez (14-12-2, 9 KOs).

The scorecards from The Paramount read 99-91 and twice 100-90, all in favor of Algieri.

Algieri, who had been out of the ring for two and a half years since getting stopped by Errol Spence Jr in 2016 boxed well and looked comfortable from the very beginning.

The first round was dictated by Algieri’s jab and movement. Hernandez did his best to cut off the ring and unload power shots but Chris was the much more slicker boxer and Hernandez was never quite able to close the gap.

Every round following the first looked exactly the same. Chris simply outboxed his opponent all night long. There were several stretches where Algieri would put his punches together and look to hurt his opponent. However to Hernandez’s credit, he never seemed hurt at any point in the fight.

Algieri’s new trainer Andre Rozier seemed pleased with his new fighters performance. “I give him a solid B for his performance tonight.” Said Rozier after the fight. “He’s been out of the ring for two and a half years so I thought he performed very well.”

As for what can possibly be next for Chris it seems as though his immediate future is already planned out. “He just got 10 tough rounds to work with. Now I can fine tune the things that I need to, to make sure he’ll be where he needs to be when he does fight for a world title.” Said Rozier.

Chris Algieri is officially back. It seems as though he’ll be gunning for his shot at a title sooner rather than later.
