NEW YORK – July 29, 2022 – SHOWTIME SPORTS has released a video feature highlighting the main event competitors of tomorrow’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING with former two-division champion Danny Garcia and former title challenger Jose Benavidez Jr. discussing the complex and loving relationships they have with their fathers and trainers in advance of their super welterweight clash Saturday live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT) from Barclays Center in Brooklyn in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

As Garcia returns to Barclays Center and SHOWTIME for a ninth time on Saturday, he does so with a newfound perspective and appreciation for the working and affectionate relationship he has with his boisterous father and trainer Angel Garcia, who in the video breaks down and cries while discussing the successful way they’ve been able to navigate their relationship in and out of the ring.

A former amateur sensation, Benavidez Jr., discusses growing up learning the sport under a father who was a strict disciplinarian, focused on instilling toughness in his kids. “The tough love got me to where I am,” says Benavidez Jr. The family dynamic and priorities have changed as Benavidez Jr. has established his own identity as a family man, much to the delight of his father.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast will also feature Polish star and Brooklyn’s all-action Adam Kownacki returning to the ring to take on Turkish Olympian Ali Eren Demirezen in a 10-round heavyweight attraction, while unbeaten rising star Gary Antuanne Russell faces former two-division champion Rances Barthelemy in a 10-round showdown to kick off the telecast.

Additional coverage will include a pair of bouts streamed live on the SHOWTIME SPORTS YouTube channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page beginning at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Top middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko battles Joshua Conley in a 10-round bout and rising prospect Vito Mielnicki Jr. takes on Jimmy Williams in an eight-round super welterweight duel
