Debate | Should Lucian Bute Retire?

Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) suffered another career setback last night at the hands of fellow Montreal fighter, Jean Pascal (29-2-1, 17 KOs). He hasn’t looked good in his last three fights. Is it time to hang ’em up?

Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) suffered another career setback last night at the hands of fellow Montreal fighter, Jean Pascal (29-2-1, 17 KOs).

Though he wasn’t tremendously active, Pascal dominated the fight with his offense in spurts and had Bute second guessing most of the night.

The lone bright spot for Bute came in Round 12 when Pascal, seemingly playing possum, was stationary against the ropes. Bute let his hands go and was able to land clean shots.

This aggression was something that had been missing from Bute’s arsenal the entire fight and may have been a product of fatigue on the part of Pascal.

Even with the twelfth-round spark, it seems that Bute’s best days are behind and boxing fans are now asking if it’s better for him to retire.

After the match had ended, Bute told HBO’s Max Kellerman that the fighter fans saw in the last round was the real Bute and that he didn’t know why he couldn’t get his shots off earlier in the fight.

Does Bute deserve a rematch or should he retire? Leave a comment with your thoughts.
