Alexander vs. Redkach

Former two division world champion Devon Alexander (27-5-1, 14 KOs) returns to action on June 1, 2019 at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California. He will be taking on veteran contender Ivan Redkach (22-4-1, 17 KOs) in the PBC on FS1 main event.

At age 32, Alexander is looking to regain his former glory. From 2015-2017, Alexander was inactive and seemed to be done with boxing. He battled drug addiction and depression. These ongoing issues caused him to lose several years of his prime. More importantly, it almost cost him his life.

Alexander managed to beat his addiction, but he hasn’t been able to beat anyone in the ring. Outside of one lone win against the unknown Walter Castillo he has lost every contest he has entered. He has lost to the likes of Andre Berto, Aaron Martinez, Amir Khan and picked up a draw against Victor Ortiz.

In short, he needs a victory to stay somewhat in the mix in the extremely talented Welterweight division. His opponent Ivan Redkach has never been known as a world beater. He is more of a gate keeper as he has yet to beat any opponents of note. With that being said however, he is riding a two-fight win streak, including a first-round knockout win against Tyrone Harris in his last ring appearance.

On paper, Alexander should have little trouble dispatching of his opponent. Yet, considering his most recent form there are doubts as to whether the former champion still has what it takes to compete in the ring anymore.

Alexander should represent one of the toughest opponents Redkach has ever faced. The journeyman level fighter does enter this contest with a two-inch height and reach advantage.

This is a make-or-break fight for both of these men. A win for Redkach would immediately turn the heads of those in the Welterweight division. For Alexander, if he is able to stop his current losing skid and look good doing so, he could be a few wins away from competing for a world title once again.
