Dirrell Dominates Bloated Rubio in PBC on CBS Main Event

Well, the main event in Corpus Christi, TX was, to no ones surprise, a dud. Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) got his comeback win today via unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) but did so in a very dull fashion.

The pro-Rubio crowd did everything they could to get Rubio psyched before the opening bell with loud applause’s and cheers but Rubio seemed just there to collect a paycheck.

It wouldn’t be an understatement to say if you gave Rubio even two rounds, that you would be the most generous boxing fan out there. Dirrell did everything right boxing wise, but if you came to the fight or watched from home you most certainty weren’t glued to your seat. Dirrell controlled the pace, the movements and could land at will.

Rubio seemed to just be going through the motions, throwing punches here and there, but with very little conviction.

Judges at ringside scored the bout unanimously 100-90 in a complete shutout win for Dirrell.

“I had an off night when I lost to Badou Jack. Everyone tonight saw my jab, my moves and straight punches,” said a confident Dirrell.

Dirrell knew he was in control of every second of the bout. At one point Rubio landed a decent left hook on Dirrell that, for a split second, sparked some excitement for the crowd. Dirrell then just turned and looked to the crowd, nodded his head, and smiled.

“I’m ready for whoever is out there at 168. So, Jack? Groves? Lets do it,” said Dirrell.

After viewing a fight like that it’s very difficult to determine if Jack and Groves are even looking at Dirrell as a serious opponent, let alone have any worries. It would be recommended that Anthony Dirrell take another fight and actually test himself against a 168 pound opponent before going for the title again.
