Earlier today during the Badou Jack vs. James DeGale final press conference, Matchroom Boxing‘s Managing Director, Eddie Hearn took the stage to discuss the highly-anticipated Super Middleweight matchup and more.

Hearn, who has helped guide Matchroom Boxing and the UK boxing scene to immense popularity in the last few years, discussed the current boxing landscape and where fighters like James DeGale fall in the picture.

“Britain has always been a country full of heart, but with very little skill,” said Hearn with a grin.

“Over the years–the last three or four years–Britain has become the dominant force and dominant market in world boxing.”

It’s hard to argue with Hearn.

The list of Britain’s 13 world champions, which includes fighters like Anthony Joshua, DeGale and Terry Flanagan–are starting become household names in the United States and with the booming skills that these fighters posses, Hearn expects the list of champions to grow.

The great news is we’re going to get better and stronger. People like James DeGale coming in are only going to raise the bar. Britain used to be a country of limited talent and big heart. Now, when you combine unbelievable talent with huge heart it’s the winning formula.
