Emilio Sanchez (17-1, 11 KOs) dropped Christopher Martin in the third round en route to a technical knockout win on Friday night in the main event of Golden Boy Promotions latest edition of L.A. Fight Club at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Sanchez continued to stalk Martin and land three-punch combinations before referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout at the end of the fifth round. Sanchez said this was his first fight after moving up to 126 pounds and he felt stronger.
“I felt strong and fast,” said Sanchez. “I was working and landing my uppercuts and shots to the body.”
The 24-year-old Sanchez opened the bout with aggression and unloaded blistering combinations. Sanchez landed an uppercut that would have dropped most opponents but Martin stayed in there.
In the third round, an uppercut staggered Martin and Sanchez followed it up with another uppercut that sent Martin to the canvas.
It was a good bounce-back win for Sanchez after coming off his first career loss in a devastating knockout by Eugene Lagos back in March.
“I have to talk to my manager Frank Espinoza and with Golden Boy Promotions, but I want to return as soon as possible,” said Sanchez.
