Erislandy Lara (20-2-2, 12 KOs) rebounded from his close loss to Saul Alvarez with a shutout unanimous decision win over former IBF Light Middleweight titlist Ishe Smith (26-7, 12 KOs) at the Illusions Theater in San Antonio, Texas.

The 12-round fight, which was for a version of the WBA Light Middleweight title held by Lara, was the main event of a card presented by Mayweather Promotions and Showtime Sports.

Lara, 31, of Guantanamo, Cuba, displayed his signature boxing style in nearly every round as he landed crisp left hands, baited Smith to the ropes and landed counter shots before stepping round Smith.

Lara constantly kept Smith out of balance and thrwarted much of Smith’s offense, but Smith did have his moments in the fight when he was able to keep Lara on the ropes and land shots to the body.

Smith, 36, of Las Vegas, Nevada, did his best to land on Lara in the later rounds, but Lara’s style proved to be too puzzling for Smith to overcome.

Lara won with scores of 119-109, 119-109, and 117-111. He also hopes to fight Floyd Mayweather next, but that is very doubtful.

In the co-main event, Badou Jack (17-1-1, 11 KOs), who is recovering from a first-round KO loss in February, scored an eight-round TKO over Francisco Sierra (26-7-1, 23 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round Light Heavyweight fight.

Jack, 33, of Las Vegas, Nevada, overwhelmed sierra with a mix of pressure and combination punches.

Sierra, 26, of San Francisco Coacalco, Mexico, took the fight on short noticed and gained a staggering 27 ½ pounds on the day of the fight.

Sierra was simply outgunned by Jack’s skill and strength and, although he protested vociferously, the referee put a stop to the fight as Sierra had been taking too much punishment.

In the first televised bout, Christopher Pearson (10-0, 9 KOs) scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Steve Martinez (15-1, 12 KOs) in a Light Middleweight fight.
