The Super Fly series continued to bring exciting fights at 115 pounds with its latest installment as Juan Francisco Estrada (37-3, 25 KOs) outlasted Felipe Orucuta (36-5, 30 KOs) to win by unanimous decision in the main event on Saturday night at The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California.

Estrada, from Sonora, Mexico, won the WBC Super Flyweight title eliminator with scores of 117-111, 117-111 and 118-110. The fight was closer than the scores indicate.

Orucuta had his moments and landed several clean shots but Estrada closed the fight strong with flurries and counters, winning the championship rounds.

“I felt strong and fast but he’s a strong fighter too and took some punishment,” said Estrada. “It was a good fight and I hope the fans enjoyed it.”

Estrada cruised through the first half of the fight, establishing the jab and countering effectively but Orucuta continued to come forward and throw looping hooks. Orucuta drilled Estrada with a combination along the ropes.

The action picked up in the seventh round with both fighters landing combinations and power shots. Orucuta’s power was evident and it seemed one of those hooks would do some damage but Estrada would counter with straight rights.

Orucuta is a tall, mobile fighter who gave Estrada trouble at times but El Gallo outboxed his opponent and finished strongly in the end. In the 12th round, Estrada rocked Orucuta twice with big power shots and landed 44 total punches.

“Anytime you have two Mexicans in the same ring, it’s going to be a good fight,” said Estrada in the post-fight interview. “Orucuta is a good fighter. He’s taller, he’s got longer range, he’s difficult but at the end I got the win.”

Estrada said they are awaiting a fight with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and he hopes that fight happens soon.

“I hope he gives us the opportunity,” said Estrada. “That’s why we took this fight. If not Rungvisai than we will fight any champion.”
