Mike Altamura Appointed as International Consultant to Assist With Mtk’s Scouting and Matchmaking Team

MTK Global has recruited experienced fight figure Mike Altamura to assist the company’s scouting and matchmaking team.

A veteran boxing industry specialist with a wealth of experience in the sport beyond his years, Altamura will join MTK as an international consultant.

The Victoria native, based in Melbourne, started off in boxing as a mid-teen fight manager almost 20 years ago.

Now 34, Altamura has vast experience of the fight game, having travelled the globe in search of fighting talent, scouting at three Olympic Games as well as collaborating with many of the biggest promotional companies all over the world.

In his new role, Mike will advise MTK on matters such as signings in addition to assisting boxers’ careers, with a particular focus on boosting elite fighters’ world rankings.

“I’m really looking forward to taking up the role,” said Altamura. “I’ll be working with MTK Global to enhance the business and sign new talent and I see great potential for both the company and many talented fighters on my radar.

“MTK is growing at a rapid rate and I’m confident that I can discover and sign some great fighters in certain untapped markets where I’ve operated for a number of years.”

Altamura has scouted a number of amateur talents, tracking and recruiting two-time world amateur champion Matt Korobov and world silver medallist Alfonso Blanco into the pro ranks.

Aussie Erin McGowan became his first world champion when claiming the WBO female world lightweight title in 2010, while Mike also guided compatriot Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib to the IBF world featherweight title a year later.

The 34-year-old currently works with a number of exciting talents such as Top Rank-promoted Paul ‘Showtime’ Fleming, Ireland’s Australia-based IBF world No 1 bantamweight contender TJ Doheny and WBO interim world junior-featherweight champion Isaac Dogboe.

A former WBO Asia Pacific Manager of the Year, Altamura has travelled extensively in an effort to unearth new talent, working in previously untapped African and South American countries such as Uganda and Guyana.

And MTK Global CEO Sandra Vaughan is delighted to recruit a young, fresh boxing industry specialist with a wealth of experience.

She said: “Mike is a great recruit for us as he will bring a vast amount of knowledge to MTK Global and there are certain markets that he knows better than anyone.

“Not only will he be on the lookout for the hottest talent, he is also well positioned to help our fighters climb the world rankings and further their careers, which remains MTK’s main goal in boxing.”
