Although the judges got it wrong the first time around, Felix Diaz scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory against Sammy Vasquez Jr. in a Welterweight fight at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The fight was televised on the latest edition of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX.

Vasquez, 30, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, is the favorite going into the fight and demonstrated his ring prowess by controlling the action in the opening round with his right jab and use if reach.

However, as the rounds progressed, Diaz grew more and more aggressive and started landing more and more shots. The 32-year-old native of the Dominican, Republic began landing short hooks on the inside, which he managed to land by constantly backing Vasquez to the ropes.

By the final rounds, Vasquez was a bloody mess, and he’d even been cut on the right side of his lip due to Diaz’s punches.

In the final round, to make matters even worse for him, Vasquez was deducted a point for losing his mouthpiece. After the final round, the scores were totaled as follows: 96-94 for Diaz and two 95-95 draw scores.

However, one of the commissioners decided that the scores be recounted. When they were recounted, two judges noticed that they’d forgotten to deduct the point from Round 10.

The final scorecards were 94-95, 93-96, and 94-95 for Diaz.
