SAN JUAN, PR – Unbeaten Puerto Rican lightweight sensation Félix ‘El Diamante’ Verdejo will defend his undefeated record, his title and the ‘Boricua Pride’ on the ‘Solo Boxeo Tecate’ event that will take place on Saturday, April 16 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in this city.

Verdejo, who possesses a perfect record of: 20-0 and 14 knockouts, will make the fourth defence of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino Lightweight title, this time against the experience Aztec fighter Daniel Evangelista Jr. (18-6-2, 14 KO’s). Evangelista has battled against quality opposition of the likes of: Former world champ Argenis Mendez and undefeated contender Casey Ramos.

“The name of my opponent makes no difference. I want to fight the best, but I don’t choose my opponents, I leave that to Ricky (Marquez) and Top Rank. I always prepare well for any opponent and this time won’t be the exception. I will be in my best condition to once again bring happiness to my people,” said Verdejo.

Ricky Marquez, manager and trainer of Verdejo, added: “Since Orlando Salido to this point, I don’t think it would be smart to think that a fighter with some losses on his record doesn’t have the qualities to be a worthy opponent. I respect Evangelista for his bravery of coming to our island to try to ruin our plans. I really think he is an opponent that will come to apply pressure, throw a lot of punches and will make Felix work to dominate him”.

In the co-featured bout, undefeated Puerto Rican prospect Christopher ‘Pitufo’ Díaz (15-0, 10 KO’s) will fight for the WBO Youth Featherweight title. Diaz’s opponent will be announced soon.

Top Rank undefeated prospects Julian ‘Hammer Hands’ Rodríguez (12-0, 9 KO’s) and Jean Carlos ‘Chapito’ Rivera (5-0 , 3 KO’s), will also see action on the card. Also, from Diamante Promotions: Jean Carlos ‘El Lobo’ Torres (4-0, 3 KO’s), Midyael ‘El Diamante Negro’ Sánchez (Pro Debut) and Roberto Cruz (Pro Debut).
