On Saturday, March 22, the Colisseo Roger Mendoza in, Caguas, Puerto Rico hosted the country’s most promising boxing prospect, 20-year-old Felix Verdejo vs. Juan Santiago in a super featherweight showdown.

Verdejo quickly demonstrated the separation of class early in the first round with multiple flurries of combinations to the head and body of the American.

After an impressive 21 second first-round knockout over former undefeated Mexican contender Lauro Alcantar, Verdejo again wasted no time and finished off Santiago with a third-round knockout, leaving his record at a polished 11-0, 8 KO.

Recently, Verdejo has been on a terror at 130 pounds, simply outclassing all of his opponents.

His technique is effective and exciting as critics hail the young fighter’s maturity. Officials at Top Rank are clearly impressed as they have openly pledged confidence in the young Puerto Rican’s talent.

To avoid mere speculation, Puerto Rico’s new promise will ultimately find himself in the ring with boxing’s elite, contending for world titles, but in the fighters immediate future expect more gaudy arenas and unglamorous undercard bouts until the folks at Top Rank decide when their most promising young prospect is ready for the spotlight.
