Fernando Guerrero Wins Decision on Golden Boy Live

After suffering a tough defeat to Peter Quillin in his previous bout, Fernando Guerrero came into Monday night’s fight against Raymond Gatica looking to get back on the winning track.

After suffering a tough defeat to Peter Quillin earlier this year, Fernando Guerrero came into Monday night’s fight against Raymond Gatica looking to get back on the winning track.

Although he got the win by unanimous decision, it wasn’t the performance Guerrero was looking for.

The Dominican fighter started the bout off a bit shaky, suffering a surprise knockdown in Round 1. Golden Boy Live commentator and legendary fighter Bernard Hopkins called it a flash knockdown, but Guerrero was visibly hurt.

Guerrero recovered from the knockdown and fought back to take control of the bout before being rocked and almost dropped again at the end of the fight.

This was Gatica’s third fight in 2013, after being out of the ring since 2010 and he certainly performed well.

Gatica was sharp early, but seemed to tire in the middle rounds and after hearing the scores of 96-93 across the board, it’s clear that the hometown fighter needed to pick up the pace to sway the judges.

Having said all that, many people on Twitter still believed Gatica did enough to win.

Gatica falls to 13-2, 8 KOs, while Guerrero improves to 26-2, 19 KOs.
