Franchon Crews-Dezurn: Loving Wife, Fighter & Diva (All In 1)

Super Middleweight Franchon Crews-Dezurn fights on the un-televised part of Showtime’s Shields-Gabriels undercard June 22, but she’s still must-see

Fans of Showtime’s Friday night prospect-driven series ShoBox: The New Generation have probably grown to know this unexpected recurring character with a big voice, a big smile and a wild, vibrant golden mane. Who’s that girl? It’s Baltimore Super Middleweight Franchon Crews-Dezurn – the hard hitting diva.

Crews-Dezurn appeared on the Pay Me No Mind podcast earlier this week to talk about her upcoming fight versus Ohioan Crystal Byers. The two fight June 22 at Detroit Masonic Temple on the un-televised undercard of Showtime Boxing‘s Special Edition: It’s Our Time To Shine event which is headlined by the vacant  and WBA Middleweight championship fight Claressa Shields vs. Hanna Gabriels. The card is a Salita Promotions event and extensive highlights of undefeated WBC and WBO Middleweight champion Christina Hammer’s title defense against former world champion Tori Nelson.

Crews-Dezurn (3-1, 1 KO) didn’t have much to say about Byers (0-3) during her interview, but the accomplished amateur – a four-time National Female Golden Gloves Champion, a four-time Pan Am Continental Champion, and a two-time US Olympic Team Alternate – struggled to find it possible that Byers could lose her “0” during their bout.

The 30-year old fighter was on her way to training, but spared a few moments of her time (starting at the 2:06:22 mark)to briefly share some thoughts on the matchups between Shields-Gabriels and Hammer-Nelson. However, a touching moment of the interview involved Crews-Dezurn sharing her unique perspective as she sat ringside watching her husband Super Bantamweight Glenn Dezurn Jr’s rugged 8-round battle with Joshua Greer Jr. a month ago on ShoBox. She also shared her thoughts on her signing to Salita Promotions back in January – she considered retirement from boxing in December.

Other guests on the podcast episode include unbeaten Detroit Bantamweight Ja’Rico O’Quinn, who is scheduled for his first 8-rounder the same night Crews-Dezurn fights. And, former Middleweight champion Kali Reis also appears on the episode, revisiting her recent historic HBO-televised bout versus undisputed Welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus. Reis has been in the ring with Hammer, Nelson and Gabriels.
