Frankie Gavin Crosses the Divide to Matchroom after Parting Company with Warren

A few days after Frankie Gavin established that he would not be renewing his contract with long time promoter Frank Warren, the Birmingham Welterweight has confirmed today that he has now signed for rival outfit Matchroom Sports.

A few days after Frankie Gavin established that he would not be renewing his contract with long time promoter Frank Warren, the Birmingham Welterweight has confirmed today that he has now signed for rival outfit Matchroom Sports.

Gavin is yet another name added to a long list of defectors who have moved from Warren to Hearn over the years, which further increases the tension between the two warring promoters. Hearn has already pencilled in May 9 as Gavin’s homecoming under the new promotional banner and the former Olympian looks ready for the challenge.

“Things had become a bit stale and it was clear that it was time to move on. I thank Frank for all he has done for me and I too wish him all the best and continued success,” said Gavin, speaking about his former promoter.

“I am starting afresh and already I am getting a new buzz and a new lease of life. I am really made up and looking forward to fighting in Birmingham,” said Gavin.

The 29 year old was also elated at the prospect of fighting on Sky Sports again, and believes he will benefit massively from the additional exposure.“This is the best platform in the world not many people have seem me recently but I am back on Sky and the sky is the limit. Kell Brook is my target. I’m number five in the world in the IBF and with Birmingham behind me I’m looking at that fight by the end of the year,” added Gavin.

Hearn also expressed his delight in welcoming Frankie to his ever-growing list of fighters, which include some of the biggest names on the British boxing scene. The Matchroom mogul also stated that Gavin would in fact appear on the undercard of Kell Brook vs. Jo Jo Dan bill on March 28 before his homecoming on May 9.

“I am really excited to be working with Frankie Gavin, he will box on the Brook show on March 28 then we are in Birmingham on May 9,” said Hearn.

The 29 year old, who is coming off his first career loss at the hands of Lenard Bundu in August, bounced back with a tight point’s decision victory against British contender Bradley Skeete and a second-round knockout win against Mate Hornyak.
