Contrary to reports from Bad Left Hook and Boxing Scene–among others–Joseph Diaz (26-0, 14 KOs) confirmed via Twitter on Sunday that his championship title clash against Gary Russell Jr. (28-1, 17 KOs) will be headed to Maryland.
The location, presumably, will be The Theater at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill.
Everyone that lives in Maryland please let me know the best spots to eat so I can have a scrumptious meal after my victory.

The May 19 scrap was thought to be headed to Montreal to serve as the co-main event to Adonis Stevenson’s title defense against Badou Jack.
While Diaz’s challenge against Russell Jr. will still be the Showtime co-main event on May 19, it’ll be a split site telecast.
It’s a split venue brother. https://t.co/30DSP2XdPh

Diaz, who is the mandatory challenge to Russell Jr.’s WBC title, will put his undefeated mark on the line.
