On Saturday, August 5, 2017, Vasyl Lomachenko beat Miguel Marriaga in a predictable one-sided fight on ESPN.

The bout came one week after Mikey Garcia defeated Adrier Broner via 12-round decision live on Showtime Championship Boxing.

A bout that now seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue is Lomachenko vs. Garcia. There are tons of hoops to jump through–HBO vs. Showtime, Premier Boxing Champions vs. Top Rank, etc.–but it’s obviously fun to imagine what if.

Abel Sanchez, head trainer of pound-for-pound star Gennady Golovkin, was recently asked about Lomachenko vs. Garcia and how he feels it would go.

The answer was actually surprising.

“Lomachenko eats him up,” said Sanchez in an interview with Fight Hub TV at the Lomachenko-Marriaga fight. “That’s my opinion. I think Lomachenko eats him up.”

When asked to elaborate on why he thinks the smaller Lomachenko would beat the undefeated WBC Lightweight champion so easily, the veteran trainer didn’t offer much in terms of an explanation.

“I think Lomachenko’s one of the best fighters around right now,” said Sanchez.

Sanchez was also asked to pick a winner between Lomachenko and fellow gold medal Olympian, Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“Lomachenko. I think Rigondeaux is a little too small,” said Sanchez.
