Earlier tonight, WBO Super Middleweight champion, Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) took home the Univision Sports 2016 Boxer of the Year award.

Ramirez–who was nominated alongside fellow Mexican fighters Oscar Valdez and Canelo Alvarez–only fought once in 2016 but it was a historical effort as Ramirez became the first Mexican to win a major world title at Super Middleweight, dominating veteran Arthur Abraham via decision on April 9.

“Zurdo” is one of Top Rank’s brightest stars and looks to return from a midyear injury to have a big 2017.
