GRANADOS TO BENN: “I OUTBOXED YOU”

Adrian Granados thinks he beat Conor Benn. But, no matter how you look at it, he did not.

Adrian Granados thinks he beat Conor Benn.

While there are a seemingly endless number of fights that can lead to debates about who did what, which fighter was more effective and why the official judges got it wrong–Benn vs. Granados is not one of those fights.

No matter how you look at it, Benn clearly won this fight. Officially, Benn won the fight unanimously, with the three judges scoring the 10-round bout 100-90, 99-91 and 97-93.

While Granados did make things difficult for Benn by moving around the ring and not folding when hit cleanly, he didn’t counter the unbeaten prospect effectively at all.

If the objective was to make ’em and make ’em pay, Granados only delivered on half of the plan.

This all seems like news to Granados though, who joined Benn in a post-fight interview, courtesy of IFL TV.

“I was in control of the tempo of the fight, carried the action as I wanted,” said Granados. “I frustrated him and it wasn’t what he wanted.”

Benn was visibly disappointment after the victory because he wanted a toe-to-toe brawl, but Granados played to his strengths–even if that means he did a bit more moving than punching.

“Just frustrated–he said we were going to come together like Mack trucks,” said Benn. “He come here and got on his bike for 10 [rounds].”

This doesn’t mean Granados cannot still compete at a high level, he just has to be honest with the assessment of his performance and not claim that “boxing politics” played a part in this particular loss.

And if the stats mean anything to you, Benn landed 51 more total punches in the bout than Granados (according to CompuBox) and Benn out landed the Chicagoan in every round except Round 7.
