Honduran Olympian Teofimo López Signs With Top Rank
The 19-year old that represented Honduras in the 2016 Rio Olympics Games signed a promotional agreement with the company that is lead by Hall Of Fame Promoter, Bob Arum
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Honduran Olympian Teofimo López signed a multi-year promotional contract with Top Rank®, the company that is lead by Hall of Fame promoter, Bob Arum.
López, whose parents where born in Honduras and was born in Brooklyn, New York, but now resides in Davie, Florida, is a 19-year old fighter that was the only boxing representative of Honduras and Central America in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
“I’m very happy. I know that I made the right choice. Alongside Top Rank I know that I will reach all my goals. They recognized talent and they know that I have the talent to become a world champion,” said Lopez after announcing his signing.
As an amateur, Lopez militated in the 132 pounds category and amassed a record of 170-20. The Honduran right-hander reached great success in various amateur tournaments including a gold medal at the ‘Golden Gloves’ in 2015.
Lopez who couldn’t accomplished his dream of winning an Olympic medal after suffering a controversial lost in his first fight in Rio, took that experience as motivation to reach his dream of becoming a world champion.
“I feel very proud of representing Honduras. I want to help Honduras. In my country people mostly talk about soccer, but I want to change that. I want people in Honduras to start talking about boxing,” affirmed the fighter that says he feels right at home in the pro ranks. “I want to be the hope for all the Hondurans, like Manny Pacquiao is to all the Philippines. I want to help my country,” said Lopez, who is trained by his father Teofimo Lopez Sr. and it’s managed by David McWaters.
“Teofimo is one of those amateurs who definitely has the better pro style and will have greater success in the pro ranks,” said Carl Moretti, Vice President of Top Rank.
Lopez will make his pro debut on the undercard of the November 5 Pacquiao vs. Vargas world championship event that will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
