Sizing Up “Swift” Jarrett Hurd vs. Kell “Special K” Brook

“Swift” Jarrett Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) vs. Kell “Special K” Brook (37-2, 26 KOs) is a fight that is on the table for the stacked Super Welterweight division.

“Swift” Jarrett Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) vs. Kell “Special K” Brook (37-2, 26 KOs) is a fight that is on the table for the stacked Super Welterweight division.

Hurd is the current IBF, WBA and IBO champion after his split-decision victory over Erislandy Lara ( 25-3-2, 14 KOs). He is the hottest fighter in the division and looks to continue his dominance.

Hurd has his wish list of opponents, they include unification bouts with Jermell Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs), Jamie Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs), or a big-time matchup with Brook.

Brook is coming off his first win in the Super Welterweight division. A vicious second-round KO of Siarhei Rabchanka (29-3, 22 KOs) for the vacant Silver Super Welterweight title

“Kell will return end of July and then we are looking for the big one after that,” said promoter Eddie Hearn exclusively via Sky Sports

The plan is in place for Brook to take one more fight in the new division. This will allow his body to get acclimated to the new weight.

This is a smart move by promoter Eddie Hearn not to rush Brook immediately into a title fight with the divisions biggest opponent.

The two fighters have traded words through the media and publicly called each other out. Hurd wants another top-tier veteran on his resume, while Brook believes Hurd is flawed and wants the opportunity to become a two-division champion.

Hurd would have to wait as he doesn’t have an opponent or venue lined up at the moment, he would be waiting for Brook to win in July.

The hype for this fight will only continue to grow. With the timeline we have been given, expect an October date or later. Details to come as talks continue and nothing is agreed to just yet.
